The Circle Series
“Life is like an ever-shifting kaleidoscope - a slight change, and all patterns alter.” ~Sharon Salzberg
“Only the atoms of the soul are perfect spheres
with no means of holding on to the world
or perhaps no need for holding on,
and so they fall through our lives catching
against nothing, like perfect rain,
and in the end, mix in that common well of light
at the center of whatever the suspected
center is, or might have been.” ~John Glenday
The Circle Series explores the tenuous nature of the exterior world through a series of paintings utilizing veiling processes. Each work in the series questions the focus on the outward while simultaneously challenging the viewer to look a bit deeper, exploring the subtleties that exist there beneath the surface. These works are comprised of veiled layers inviting viewers to look beyond their initial facades. The Circle Series suggests the importance of interior subtlety beyond the surface.
Painted on canvas or birch panel with occasional collage elements, The Circle Series aims to express progression and harmony in the search for minds’ true nature. The paintings reference elements from our world imbued with an understanding of quantum physics, based on sense-perceptible experiences and super-sensible intuitions. They are physically characterized by various sheens, reflective gold leaf applications, matte passages, and overlapping translucent veils.
